Special New Year's Eve Day Ritual: Setting Clear Intentions for 2021

Join us for a guided ritual of quiet contemplation as we release 2020 into the past and articulate a vision for 2021. Betty will lead you through a series of reflective questions; by the end you will have a simple practice to help you sustain your intentions for the New Year.  The ritual will last 45 minutes, with 15 additional minutes for informal chatting and community.  This has nothing to do with resolutions; it's about giving you time and space to pause and reflect. Please bring a candle, a notebook or digital journal, and something you enjoy writing with.

Connecting with the Sacred

Rituals allow us to leave the world behind for a bit, and enter the liminal space where revelation and change is possible. This week we’ll have almost no presentation; instead we will engage in a ritual to cultivate connections to that which is sacred for each of us.

Inner Work for Social Justice

Dismantling racism is an ongoing process. For those of us raised in a racist society (e.g. all of us born in the U.S.) we are called to examine the stories, images, ideologies, values, and systems that are lodged deep in our unconscious so that we can release and replace them. This week's ritual will invite us to examine these unconscious narratives and replace them with new stories that promote healing and justice.

Creating Meaningful Rituals for Life Transitions

Humans have created ritual to manage life's unending stream of challenges since the stone age. Today, neuroscience tells us what our ancestors knew all along: Rituals can be designed to catalyze a temporary state of ego dissolution, which frees the mind up from conscious thought and offers  new insights, intuitions, and creativity that can be applied to our daily lives. Betty researched and developed this work via the Mira Fellowship.

How to Help Young People Transition to Adulthood

Our kids are entering a future that looks nothing like the present. In this talk, Betty shares a contemporary coming of age program that combines what we know from the educational and psychology research with traditional rites of passage to create a contemporary non-denominational and student-centered initiatory experience for young people. (See more about this approach in Betty's article on the Greater Good Science Center)
